Dr. Shangming Zhang received his MD at North China University of Science and Technology College of Medicine (previously known as North China Medical College for the Coal Industry) and MS at Hunan Medical University in China. He then completed his residency in Pathology at North China Medical College for the Coal Industry. He stayed there as faculty and was promoted to Associate Professor. He served as Chairman of Department of Pathology, Deputy Director of Basic Medical Science Center, and Director of Molecular Biology Laboratory at North China Medical College for the Coal Industry before moving to the United States. He joined Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana as a visiting scholar. He did many years of research in Immunology before he completed his residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2010. He joined Penn State Hershey Medical Center as Assistant Professor, Department of PM&R in July 2010. He has served as Medical Director of PM&R Outpatient Clinic since June 2013. Dr. Zhang is board-certified in PM&R and has published 40 peer reviewed articles, book chapters and posters

张医生毕业于华北理工大学医学院（原华北煤炭医学院)。同年考取湖南医科大学硕士研究生。毕业后,他回华北煤炭医学院任病理科住院医师和讲师。张医生曾是多项科研项目包国家自然科学基金的课题负责人后被破格晋升副教授。他曾担任病理教硏室主任，基础医学部副主任和学院中心实验室主任。他于1996年以访问学者身份留学美国。他在美国印第安纳大学医学院从事了多年的基础研究工作。张医生通过美国医生资格考试并在印度安纳大学完成了康复科住院医生的训练。他于2010年加入宾州大学医学院做助理教授。张医生是美国康复医学会资格认证的康复专科医生。他从2013年六月起担任康复科门诊主任。张医生发表各种学术论文,书章节和学术会议通报共四十余篇。
